Word has spread that the Blackberry Storm would be the iPhone’s killer. In an article published by Jim Courtney, he said that with little and subtle exposure the Blackberry Storm is having, there erupted raving reviews, creating high anticipation for the Storm to arrive in stores nationwide. But is the Storm up to the challenge? Many believe it is. Not only will the Storm dare to compete with the iPhone; it is expected to generate a lion’s revenue share with its rival. The Blackberry Storm is expected to do this because of its tech-savvy and amazing functionality features. Courtney explained in his article why he believed it so.
As to carriers, the Blackberry Storm will be carried by networks with established 3G network capability but did not carry iPhone: Verizon Wireless and Vodafone. In Canada, the Storm will be carried by Telus and Bell. This is important when it comes to the Storm’s potential market share. The present customer base for Verizon alone is estimated at 70 million, with a loyal following across different enterprises. For roaming outside North America, Verizon, Tellus, and Bell have the necessary GSM bands to cover Europe and Asia for the Storm.
As to keyboard, the Storm has a unique three-form feature. Options include: QWERTY in landscape mode, SureType and Traditional 12-key in Portrait mode. When you choose a letter in the keyboard, you will be provided other option language for each letter.
As to its industrial marketability, there is no question that there are many supporters of Blackberry phones in the IT industry. The launch of a new Blackberry phone would be perceived as an upgrade for a good number of Blackberry loyalists. Many rumors even spread around about IT managers refusing the request of their employees for iPhone support. With the Storm’s great multimedia features including synchronization of the phone to iTunes, the Storm just proves that it can be handy and functional, both for its average and tech-savvy users.
As to support, Blackberry will launch its own application store. Research in Motion, the brains behind the Blackberry series, announced that it will open its own Blackberry Application Store come March of 2009. Thousands of developers attended the Blackberry Developer Conference, which aimed at providing more user applications with convenience, supported by a budget worth $150 million coming from the Blackberry Partners Fund.
As to generic user applications, Blackberry has made applications for Nokia95 available for its newer phones, including the Nokia SlingPlayer for the Blackberry Bold. Clearly, there will be more general applications to come for the Blackberry phones, especially the Storm.
With the advanced features of this new phone, the Blackberry Storm is set to wow consumers and “stealthily” veer iPhone’s current market share towards the Storm’s direction.
