Does Blackberry Storm Live Up to Expectations?
I’ve had the iphone 3g and was very happy with it, a beautiful phone indeed. So now the blackberry storm is out. Right now I have no carrier I can move back to at&t or any other carrier.
I haven’t played with the storm yet, but is it a phone that will keep iphone users happy?

its a cool phone
i tried it at the verizon store!! its soo cooool!!!
i wantt it!
i have the boring old voyager =[
OMG I LOVE BLACKBERRY COMMERCIALS
dont own a blackberry or have a friend who has one besides work but omge ther commerical for them are absolutly the best! where the guy goes whoah and then the screen goes black hilarous and totally awesome
well it depends who you r a lot of people don’t like it because of the whole click screen but for a lot of people that was the buying point
Well, the best thing is to go into the Verizon store YOURSELF!
Alot of people say its Bad & Things.
But,with the new software update its perfectly fine.
the click works very nicely.
as for pricing,i only know your required to get an additional monthly $30 fee for internet and data.
Try it for yourself. That’s the best personal advice I can give you.
For me personally, I loved the phone and ordered one a few days ago. Although I don’t like comparing it to the IPhone, since you said you own an IPhone I will try and compare it in terms of what you’re used to. BB Storm has basically all the same features the IPhone has except the ability of WiFi. However, in my opinion, this disadvantage is nullified since Verizon’s 3G network is superior to AT&T’s. Overall, Verizon’s coverage has proven to be the best available. With that said, you may find that where you live, Verizon coverage is poor, so once again, it works wonders to simply try the phone out before buying it.
In terms of features, the BB Storm has a full HTML browser, can view Youtube, etc. The Browser has a few kinks, but in the recent update by RIM, most of them have been removed and the speed is identical to that of the IPhone 3G. It has full multimedia capabilites including be able to transfer your music over, including ITunes. And unlike the IPhone where you cannot get more memory storage, the BB Storm allows you to buy MicroSD Cards for a very fair price; so now you wont have to worry about running out of storage space. The BB Storm has a stunning screen and videos look tremendous on it.
It includes a 3.2 MP camera as opposed to IPhone 2.0. It also allows video capture.
Some things the BB Storm has but the IPhone doesn’t:
Copy/Paste Feature
MMS
Unrivaled ‘Push’ E-mail. (The IPhone has been trying to catch up with this technology, but RIM is truly in a league of its own. You will be amazed by the e-mail features of a Blackberry.)
SurePress Screen (More on this in a second)
Additional storage capabilities
Video Capture
Better Network (Let’s face it, although IPhone is a good phone, AT&T is a drag compared to Verizon’s coverage. Though this could be different in your area.)
The Big thing about the BB Storm is its Sure-Press Screen. It is not like a normal touch screen on the IPhone. When you touch the screen, you ‘hover’ over your selection. But in order to make any selection, you actually have to push in to the screen, similar to that of a mouse click. This (in theory) makes selecting choices much more reliable, removes the possibility of error in typing, and allows more intuitive features in browsing. This technology is not for everyone, and it definitely has a learning curve to get used to it. I didn’t like it at first, but the more I played with it, the more I liked it. I’m not sure if this is true, because I don’t have mine yet, but I have heard that if you don’t like the Sure-Press, you can go to the Phone Settings and allow double-taps to also select options.
It should be noted again, that there are still looming bugs in the Storm’s software. But this is to be expected when a new phone is released. There is no reason not to assume RIM will be taking care of these issues through continuous updates.
Beyond what I have said, and I am sure I have missed a lot, you could also check out some reviews of the Storm on Youtube. I found this one most useful:
It’s long, but hey: there’s so many features, it is hard to be any more concise without leaving out some of the content.
Edit: As far as the pricing goes, yes, for a 2 yr contract, it is $250 with a $50 rebate, thus dropping it to $200. You will be required to purchase a data plan with it which includes unlimited web browsing and e-mail for $29.95. For an additional $15, you can use your BB Storm as a wireless broadband modem for your laptop as it does have that technology. The plans vary for minutes and texting, so you would be best checking out the Verizon website for that information.
I got it. At first, I didn’t like it. I thought it lagged a little bit and I kept feeling like I had fat fingers (lol). But after playing with it for a few hours, I was able to change the settings to make the responses faster and zoom in the web pages. So, now I love it!
I pay 79.99, 450 minutes, unlimited to Verizon customers, unlimited data.
I have researched it, tested it and decided for myself that considering:
3G network, full html browsing, touchscreen, up to 16 gb of music, personal chat style text, size/weight, QWERTY landscape, portrait and landscape view, 3.5 mm/ bluetooth headset capability, 3.2 mega-pixel camera and video (tested and looks well above average) … plus more features that I won’t use, such as up to 10 email accounts, are included
I will be purchasing this phone as soon as possible (Phone won’t ship till 12/15 or find a dealer with one)
After having many carriers, including AT&T, I will not leave Verizon anytime soon. As far as the plans you’ll have to check them out for yourself. Here are the sources…
*Oh yeah.. Some people complain about the clicking while texting/emailing/etc. but remember that the screen is one button itself. So in order to click the next letter in a word, you will need to release the previous! ..This is pretty big concern to me, even though I know I will get used to what I am going to buy, but I heard this will get better as updates come out.
Let me know what you decide!
I live in the UK and have had my Blackberry Storm for about 3 weeks now. It is an amazing phone and as one of the other posters said, it take a bit of getting used to but you can make it your own. It is my first Blackberry and I am addicted! Over here the Storm is limited to Vodafone, my plan is £35 p/m which gives me 600 minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited internet and emails.
It does live up to the hype!
Going from the iPhon to the Storm is not going to be a satisfying experience. Where the iPhone is elegant in its navigation and fluid in the way it displays graphics, the Storm just feels clunky.
The Storm is a great phone no doubt, and for anyone wanting a touch screen BlackBerry experience it will be quite an experience to be sure. That being said though, I think you should go into a store and actually play with one so you can see the differences hands on.
The browser is one area in particular where the iPhone shines and the Storm seems rather dull in comparison.
I hope so =) I’m upgrading on Monday for FREE xD just add 9 months to my contract and 5€ =) With a free phone, can’t ask better than that =)
I think iphone users will have a learning curve when it comes to the click technology. I was a blackberry user and went to this phone and its just amazing. The look and feel and the technology is all awesome. I would go out to Verizon and try one out for yourself. Its not for everyone as the iphone is not for everyone too.
