If you have internet, you will be able to use e-mail, bbm, IM, and obviously internet. If you're looking for a skinnier phone go for the pearl. But I have the curve and I love it and its so easy to type on! The pearl is too once you get used to it though. And if you think the curves keys are too small, trust me they're fine. I'd say the best way to decide which one you want is go to the Verizon store (with working models) and mess around with both the curve and the pearl for a while and then decide which one you like more.
